Abstract

Histidine-1 prototrophs of Neurospora crassa obtained from crosses between the alleles K83 and K625 were classified for combinations of the flanking markers inositol and amination-1. Comparison of the results from rec-1 × rec-1 and rec-1 × rec-1+ crosses shows that there is a marked change in the proportions of the two parental classes, from 1.51:1 to 0.55:1, but none in the proportions of the two recombinant classes. Analysis of 69 progeny of a rec-1 × rec-1+ cross failed to show segregation of the rec-1 locus from any factor affecting the distribution of flanking markers among his-1 prototrophs. The rec-1 genes are presumed to influence the point of origin, with respect to the his-1 locus, of hybrid DNA.
