Abstract

The Hippo signaling pathway is an emerging growth control and tumor suppressor pathway. Our laboratory has been using a genetic approach in mice to study the role of Hippo signaling in regulating liver progenitor cell growth and differentiation. Hippo signaling is dynamically modulated during liver development to ensure proper maturation of two major cell types of the liver: hepatocytes and biliary epithelial cells. In addition, Hippo signaling is required in the adult liver to maintain quiescence and to repress activation of resident liver stem cells. These and other recent findings from our laboratory will be discussed.
