Abstract

Design of lumped-element filter is typically a multistep process that includes optimization of real-valued parameters, rounding of the optimized values to the nearest values of available components and further refinements. We propose a design approach based on an optimization of discrete-valued parameters of filters using genetic algorithm. The filter elements are allowed to have only commercially available values for SMD components. The optimized solution of a band-pass filter is verified by simulations using circuit solver, 3D electromagnetic models and measurements of the manufactured prototype.
