Abstract

Based on a transverse flow CO2 laser in the power range 1-5 kW, a high peak-power, medium average-power, high repetition-rate laser has been developed. The system consists of a Q-switched unstable optical resonator. The Q-switching is done by a fast rotating chopper disk placed in the focal plane of an intracavity telescope. Pulses with nearly 150 ns duration tau FWHM and 500 kW peak power are generated at repetition rates of a few kHz.
