Abstract

AbstractRadicals of poly(N‐vinylcarbazole) (PNVC), generated by thermal decomposition of peroxides, were studied by ESR. Apart from the known cation radical on nitrogen, formed in the process of ion‐radical decomposition of dibenzoyl peroxide, a carbon radical is observed on the main chain. The radical is formed by homolytic decomposition of dicumyl peroxide and is observed only when the system is subjected to high pressure. The mechanism of peroxide decomposition and of formation of PNVC radicals is discussed.
