Abstract

Radiation in the wavelength range from 6.0 to 6.2 µm, which is in a highly absorptive region of LiNbO3, was generated. A 5 mol % MgO-doped, periodically poled LiNbO3 was used as an optical parametric oscillator. The oscillator was pumped by a Nd:YAG laser with an 11 ns pulse duration. The signal and idler waves generated were focused on another periodically poled LiNbO3 for difference frequency generation. The maximum pulse energy obtained was 0.21 µJ at 6.05 µm.
