Abstract
The generation of picosecond pulses from gain-switched semiconductor laser diodes is studied. Theoretically, common-rate equations are used to give pulse width and amplitude as a function of external parameters. The numerical predictions are compared with experimental results. It is found that optimum conditions can be achieved by an appropriate choice of the bias current.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
