Abstract

Purpose: The work-up of diseases affecting the hepatic parenchyma often requires liver biopsy. Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse Virtual Touch Tissue Quantification (ARFI-VTTQ) elastography permits quantitative measurement of tissue elasticity. The new elastography method using Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse Virual Touch Imaging and Quantification (ARFI-VTIQ) provides the additional capability for visual representation of tissue elasticity. Reliable use of these methods for assessing pathological changes in hepatic tissue requires establishment of normal reference ranges for findings returned by ARFI-VTTQ and ARFI-VTIQ in the healthy liver.
