Abstract

A generalized ultra wideband approach for subsurface microwave imaging and nondestructive testing of the stratified media is presented. The proposed approach makes use of the scattering data measured in both frequency and time domains to reconstruct the inhomogeneous permittivity profile of the stratified media. This approach integrates the frequency and time domain capabilities by combining the Riccati equation based spectral domain method with the recently proposed time domain approach for the accurate reconstruction of inhomogeneous lossy dielectric media. The applicability of the proposed method is shown by demonstrating the strength and limitations of both the Riccati equation approach and the time domain technique using a typical four-layered media.
