Abstract

Majorana-like photons are introduced from a special function class of vector vortex beams known as cylindrically vector vortex (CVV) beams among them are the Laguerre-Gaussian and Airy beams. These Majorana-like photons and their anti-photons are the same being neutral, massless, and following the state function of a Majorana self-transposed (ψ = ψ∗). A Majorana photon has the characteristic of both in its spin angular momentum (SAM) and orbital angular momentum (OAM). They have an inhomogeneous polarization structure and a non-separable state. These Majorana-like photons have various types of applications such as in transmission in bio-media, classical and quantum communication, microscopy among others.
