Abstract

This paper describes and applies a method of estimating a regression model using grouped observations when the groupings used are non-exclusive. In this case the familiar weighted least squares grouping estimator is inappropriate and a generalized Aitken estimator is applied. The method is used to analyze the relationship between diet and standardized mortality ratios in Great Britain. Data are derived from mortality statistics for 1969-1973 and National Food Survey reports for 1955-1976. (EXCERPT)
