Abstract

The generalized momentum distribution η( p, Q) of finite nuclei is studied. Tractable analytical expressions are derived using a harmonic oscillator basis and numerical results are presented for the closed-shell nuclei 16O and 40Ca in the case that p is parallel to Q . Our results are compared with those for an infinite Fermi gas of appropriate wave number and with those for a model nuclear matter derived via microscopic calculations including dynamical correlations. The method is expected to reproduce the main features of the quantity η( p, Q) stemming from finite nuclear size and Fermi statistics, being reliable at certain regions of the momenta p and Q.
