Abstract

This paper describes a generalized method for designing the retractable fenders system. The presented hypothetical method of design is based on the mathematical analysis of the frictional resistance created during retraction, between the fender frame and both the ship hull and the sliding surface of the supporting brackets.In the design procedure included herein, a particular attention is directed to the influence of the combined dynamic behaviour of the system, including the berthing ship, the fender and the marine structure.
