Abstract

The longitudinal ultrasonic attenuation rate is derived by means of Mori's generalized Langevin equation. For most of the temperature range, earlier results obtained by perturbation theory are reproduced. However, when Δ ≲ 1/τ, where τ is the relaxation time of quasiparticle density, it is shown that the Cooper pairs begin to participate in ultrasonic absorption even when ω < 2Δ, as a result of fluctuation of the order parameter.
