Abstract

INTRODUCTION The optical theorem is a fundamental result of the wave scattering theory [1, pp. 23–37]. It is used to estimate the error of the method of integral equations and other numerical-analytic methods. The optical theorem plays an important role in the computation of the absorption cross-section in the case of permeable obstacles, which is of substantial practical interest in diffraction problems. At the same time, it is also important to generalize the optical theorem to the case of wave scattering by a permeable obstacle near an absorbing half-space. In the present paper, we use integro-functional relations to generalize the optical theorem to this case.
