Abstract

The naive quark-parton model is reformulated so that the parton transverse momentum may be arbitrarily large. Two scaling variables are found with which the distribution of partons in a hadrons in a quark jet can be expressed. In terms of those variables the kinematical relationship among four distinct virtual photon processes is exhibited. The formalism when applied to deep inelastic scattering and the Drell-Yan process can accommodate large σ L σ T and the observed dependence of 〈 q T〉 on M μμ .
