Abstract
A covariant scheme of l-broken U(6,6) is presented which generalises the 3P0 model and is shown to contain the Melosh scheme as a special case for pionic and photonic transitions considered separately. In contrast to the Melosh scheme, however, these transitions are related, by U(6,6) and vector dominance An efficient method for calculating matrix elements is presented and the contributions of the 'non-Melosh' couplings tabulated.
