Abstract
A class of models is proposed, as a generalisation of the Goodman RC association model, which provides a method of analysis of multi-dimensional contingency tables. The application of these models is illustrated with examples from item response models and multiple choice questionnaires. The flexibility of the models is demonstrated by the analysis of a marital endogamy study.
