Abstract

The multiparticle process is investigated in the framework of the covariant field theory and the eikonal formalism. Mechanisms assumed for the scattering and the particle production have sufficient generality. The eikonal approximation about incident energetic particles leads to an impact-parameter picture, and closed forms for the amplitudes are obtained. From the study of the unitarity, the interrelation between the elastic and production channels is revealed, and it is explicitly shown how the absorptive part of the eikonal phase shift is settled as a reflection of the multiparticle production. Expressions for some of physical observables are also derived.
