Abstract
In order to get information from the field equations in General Relativity one makes simplifying assumptions which restrict spacetime metric. These assumptions can be geometric and physical. Collineations are the geometric assumptions which concern the ‘symmetries’ of the metric defined by the Lie symmetries of either the metric itself or the tensors defined form the metric. Because the metric fixes the Einstein tensor, and through Einstein field equations, the energy momentum tensor Tab, the effects of collineations extent to all parts of General Relativity. The purpose of this article is to give a brief overview of certain effects of collineations on the Geometry, the Kinematics and the Physics of General Relativity.
