Abstract

One naturally thinks of radiology in terms of diagnosis and therapy, and a division of the specialty on this basis has been strongly urged by some radiologists. I think of radiology as divided also into private and institutional practice. Since I have devoted my efforts to the private practice of clinical radiology in my own private office for more than 30 years, obviously my reasoning is influenced by my experience. It is from this point of view that I shall discuss some of the problems of general radiology. In institutional work, particularly in large hospitals and teaching institutions, patients are seen by a group of specialists in various fields, and the problems of the consultant in radiology are altogether different from those presented to the radiologist in private practice.
