Abstract
It was nurses working in primary care and general practice in particular that started the debate, on this side of the Atlantic, about the title Nurse Practitioner. The debate rumbles on, has not been won and will not be won. I have often heard a ‘nurse practitioner’ tell me that they work at an advanced level of practice. Many do and I greatly admire their theory/practice joined-up skills. The fact is that the UKCC has been grappling with the advanced level of practice since PREP was first drafted.
