Abstract

A fusion fuel processing system is being designed and will be installed at JET Joint Undertaking to allow plasma discharges in deuterium/tritium mixtures. The system receives the exhaust gases from the JET tokamak and after purification and isotopic separation, delivers pure protium, deuterium and tritium to the tokamak and subsystems. The design is based on a maximum daily throughput of 30 g tritium. The plant, located in a dedicated building, includes an exhaust detritiation as well as an impurity processing (detritiation) system. Operation of the plant is subject to statutory approvals, which require, among others, detailed safety reviews of subsystems as well as of the plant as a whole.
