Abstract
Acaryophrya collaris is an oval or spherical ciliate, 90–120 μm in diameter. The somatic infraciliature is made up of 50–60 spiral kineties. On the dorsal side of the cell are 10–12 kinetal segments, which bear clavate cilia. The circumoral infraciliature is composed of 50–60 pairs of kinetosomes. The conjugation process includes three prezygotic divisions and three postzygotic divisions. Each exconjugant contains four macronuclear Anlagen and two micronuclei. The paper concludes with some general reflections on the morphological differences between the zone of clavate cilia in prorodontine and haptorine ciliates.
