Abstract

Abstract It has been shown that the tire contour integral can only be evaluated exactly in terms of elementary functions and elliptic integrals in special cases. Approximate numerical methods, with computer programming, have been used heretofore to calculate contours which result from conventional, bias-angle tire construction, by assuming the cord path: ρ/cos α=ρ0/cos α0. In calculating the contours, for deflected tires having such a cord path, a new approximate method of evaluating the contour integral was described which expressed the contours in terms of elliptic integrals.
