Abstract

Background: The pelvic floor is composed of muscles, ligaments, fascia; tissues responsible for supporting the pelvic viscera, controlling the urethra, anal sphincter and sexual function, also acting in childbirth. It is essential that the woman has selfknowledge about her body so as not to develop dysfunctions. Aims: To analyze the level of self-knowledge that the female population has about function, location and dysfunctions related to the pelvic floor. Method: Quantitative and qualitative crosssectional study, carried out through a questionnaire applied during an informative lecture. Results: Of the 50 participants, most of the questions showed good knowledge, but the level of education was related to the level of knowledge. Conclusion: Women in the region have good knowledge of pelvic floor health, but some had difficulty identifying and differentiating between normal and pathological processes in the body. There is a need for investment in educational activities, especially for the less favored educational strata.
