Abstract

Porous materials are attracting more and more attentions in various fields and a lot of efforts have been made to develop the synthesis of porous materials. Since the first report on the synthesis of macroporous silica monoliths by Nakanishi and Soga in 1991, the sol–gel method accompanied by the spinodal decomposition has been developed as one of the most promising synthesis way of porous monolithic materials. However, in spite of the dramatic progress in the synthesis of porous silica monoliths, the fabrication of porous monoliths based on the materials other than silica and their derivatives is still hard to be achieved. In the present thesis, further development of the technique consisting of the sol–gel method and phase separation has been achieved with organic, inorganic, and organic–inorganic hybrid materials.KeywordsPorous monolithic materialsSol–gel methodPhase separation
