Abstract

A general expression is derived for the critical parallel-pump-field strength for magnetoelastic waves. This expression can be used for all wave propagation directions, bias field directions, and crystal symmetries. In contrast to previous treatments, certain critical field results can be obtained without extensive numerical computation. It is found, for example, that when spin wave damping of elastic modes is dominant, these elastic modes have a critical pump field strength simply equal to twice the spin wave linewidth.
