Abstract

This paper emphasizes the need for a critical attitude towards audio materials obtained during folklore fieldwork and argues for the need to check / validate the audio materials documented in the field in terms of their reliability, completeness and compliance with the norms of the studied ethnomusical culture. «Attention zones», potentially dangerous in terms of possible bias of information at various the stages of its processing (fixation – funding – study – publication) have been identified. The factors that are the key to correct reading and appropriate scientific interpretation of field recordings were identified.
The last period of collection of Ukrainian musical folklore is characterized (from the point of view of methods used, collecting skills and the state of preservation of the ethnomusical tradition).
The main perspectives and methods of critical analysis of contemporary field recordings are presented – both at the level of a single piece or even its elements, and at the level of a larger or smaller field of information.
