Abstract
(Can J Anesth/J Can Anesth. 2024;71:169–174. doi: 10.1007/s12630-023-02634-9) The practice of using general anesthesia (GA) for cesarean deliveries (CD) has changed over the past 5 decades. This change was sparked by a study demonstrating a high rate of maternal deaths caused by GA that was published in 1997. Significant practice adjustments led to improved safety and decreased anesthesia-related deaths. GA rates differ between institutions.
