Abstract

To achieve the acoustic goals in today's jet aircraft with attending ground support equipment requires a concentrated effort in the preliminary design stage. This effort is predicated in part on the extent of existing knowledge as to the effects of the various noise generating parameters. Where these are lacking, it becomes necessary to set up programs to evaluate complete systems, as in air conditioning, or structures as in ground cart cabinet design. This predesign effort with its attending programs becomes the more important because of the tendency today continually to lower the noise level environment in which the human inhabitant will be placed either as a passenger or as one of the ground maintenance crew. Because of the direction toward lighter structures, greater weight saving, greater outputs, and space and size limitations, every facet of acoustical design must be considered. An effort will be made to consider many of these facets and their accompanying noise evaluation programs.
