Abstract

problem of establishing the genealogy of atomic states in external fields is analyzed by steady-state perturbation theory. The method of diagonalizing the energy matrix through the use of perturbed wave functions reduces to first-order perturbation theory. The intersection and antiintersection of levels in an electric field are discussed.
