Abstract

Cloning and sequencing of numerous hs-induced genes from different types of organisms was complemented by the functional analysis of promoters and genes by transformation of homologous and heterologous expression systems. Cloning and sequencing of numerous hs-induced genes from different types of organisms was complemented by the functional analysis of promoters and genes by transformation of homologous and heterologous expression systems. Numbers in parentheses mark positions of the first and last nucleotides, respectively. Downstream of the last hs box, positions of the TATA-box and of the transcription start point are given. Analytical techniques for characterization of transformed cell lines are indicated under Methods. In optimum combination, HSEs can act as an enhancer, i.e., they act irrespective of their direction of insertion and distance from the transcription start.
