Abstract

Infection of Salmonella typhimurium with the m 3 mutant of bacteriophage P22 leads to a rapid and severe efflux of intracellular leucine. The superinfection exclusion ( sie ) genes of P22 interfere with the function of m 3 gene, the product(s) of which is speculated to be an internal protein of phage P22.
