Abstract

Since over a century gender mainstreaming tries to take root in our society to ensure equality of all genders on all social levels. Nevertheless, the so-called gender gap is still omnipresent, especially the gender health gap. Men are still the main focus in (medical) research, the androcentric system and binary thinking are tenacious. This can cause severe consequences for medical issues for non-male genders. Late or wrong diagnosis for heart diseases or pain syndromes in women happen a lot of times because of unawareness of early symptoms or wrongly blaming a psychosomatic cause. Non-binary people are not represented at all.The medical knowledge of gender differences is also important for osteopathy, because we have to interpret those symptoms in a gender sensitive way in order to avoid missing contraindications for a treatment.
