Abstract

Abstract The sexual integration of correctional officer staffs has been an important issue to correctional administrators since the 1970's. Yet in addition to simply recruiting more women, it is also imperative to retain them in their positions over time. Unfortunately, most research concerning variables relating to job satisfaction among correctional officers has either focused on male officers (who predominate in many prisons) or has been gender neutral. This project seeks to compare and contrast determinants of job satisfaction between two groups of male and female correctional officers (n=229) at four midwestern prisons. The findings are presented and the their implications discussed.
