Abstract
The study aims at exploring how young entrepreneurs perceive gender inequality in Egypt and to assess their understanding about the nature of entrepreneurship activities. The study is based on a survey of 101 young entrepreneurs who participated in an event organised by the European Union in 2017 to boost the young participation in economic activities away from the public sector. The results indicate that female participate less in entrepreneurship activities than male. Larger percentage of female respondents misunderstand the meaning of entrepreneurship activities thinking it means state subsidy or secured job. It is recommended that entrepreneurship education should be introduced in primary and secondary schools. The limitation of the paper is that it concentrates on the more educated in Egypt and therefore the characteristics of young entrepreneurs who drop from school to find private business to support their families is outside the scope of this paper.
