Gender Differences in Myocardial Histology and Gene Expression in Recent Onset Cardiomyopathy: Implications for Recovery

Abstract

For subjects with recent onset dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), the influence of gender on myocardial recovery remains unknown. We examined the histopathology and gene expression on endomyocardial biopsies for subjects with recent onset DCM enrolled in the IMAC trial. Methods: All 62 patients in the IMAC (Intervention in Myocarditis and Acute Cardiomyopathy) trial with recent onset cardiomyopathy (37 M, 25 W, LVEF < 0.40 and within six months of symptom onset) were evaluated. Endomyocardial biopsy was performed upon entry.
