Abstract

This chapter presents the gender-budgeting process in India. India’s efforts in gender budgeting stands out globally as a fiscal innovation that have influenced both national and subnational levels of government, not only on expenditure policies but also on revenue policies and tax transfer mechanisms. Gender budgeting in India, as a fiscal innovation, has four phases, viz., knowledge building; integrating institutional mechanisms and analytical matrices; capacity building, and accountability mechanisms.
