Abstract

Gender issues in India have been very well documented. Indian legal system is well equipped as to set of laws governing the gender related issues like violence and discrimination. Gender related to one’s notion of being. It includes a number of values, notions and norms. It also signifies an individual’s role and status in the society. Women have been accorded a lower status in this hierarchy of social status and have been subjected to discrimination and violence of various kinds. Transgender community lacked recognition prior to NALSA Judgement.
