Abstract
Subject. The article addresses gender inequality in different countries and its causes. Objectives. The purpose is to analyze the reasons for annual differentiation of countries by the value of the main indices assessing the gender inequality. Methods. The study employs general scientific research methods. Results. The paper presents the main indices used to assess gender inequality in countries around the world. It shows that the calculation of the indices does not take into account many factors significantly affecting the presence or absence of gender parity (for example, the amount of unpaid domestic work). Conclusions. The results of the study can be used by heads of enterprises in allocating quotas for women, establishing flexible work schedules for them, and eliminating the "glass ceiling" on wages.
