Abstract
A homeless population requesting social services from a centralized intake agency for the homeless was studied in a moderately sized community. Particular attention was given to the similarities and differences for homeless women and men. The findings indicate women and men experience homelessness somewhat differently. Women were more likely to become homeless because of eviction and domestic violence, whereas men were more likely to become homeless as a result of unemployment alcohol abuse, and jail release.
