Abstract

Geminal tin-tin coupling constants in some trimethyl tin Group IV and Group V compounds have been measured by 119Sn NMR spectroscopy. The sign of 2 J(SnSn) in tris(trimethylstannyl)methane is negative and there is evidence that most of the coupling constants 2 J(SnSn) obtained in this study are negative. The values of 2 J(SnSn) for a number of stannylamines are discussed. They suggest a dependence upon the bond angle SnNSn and the geometry at the nitrogen atom.
