Abstract

GE's chairman Jack Welch has set a tough corporate goal: to become the global market leader, or at least number two, in each of the company's key businesses. Technology offers one means of bringing that goal closer to fruition. To effectively manage that technology, however, GE managers must demonstrate prowess in handling a wide range of products and services and a corporate portfolio that has seen great change in recent years.
