Abstract

GC-MS determination of bioactive components of Erythropalum scandens Bl., Bijdr.Sutha .S, Kalpana Devi .V, Mohan .V.R

Highlights

  • Schizophrenia is considered to be a neurodevelopmental disease and is suggested to be associated with excessive stimulation of dopamine D2 receptors in the associative striatum, with a lack of stimulation of dopamine D1 receptors in prefrontal cortex the primary process connected with this disease remains indecisive (Laruelle, 2014)

  • The aim and objective of the present study is to perform GC-MS analysis of Morinda citrifolia fruit extract and in-silico docking analysis of the phytoconstituents identified in Morinda citrifolia fruit extract against targets for antipsychotic drugs like dopamine receptors (D2 and D3)

  • The introduction of the benzodiazepine, clozapine, opened the period of "atypical" antipsychotic drugs, which show a reduced potential to persuade extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS), an augmented effectiveness for the negative symptoms of schizophrenia, no rise of prolactin after persistent use, and effectiveness in some patients formerly regarded as treatment-refractory (Shen, 1999)

Summary

Introduction

Schizophrenia is considered to be a neurodevelopmental disease and is suggested to be associated with excessive stimulation of dopamine D2 receptors in the associative striatum, with a lack of stimulation of dopamine D1 receptors in prefrontal cortex the primary process connected with this disease remains indecisive (Laruelle, 2014). The phytoconstituents from Morinda citrifolia exhibited the binding pattern to that of the standard drugs exhibiting antipsychotic activity by inhibiting D2 and D3 dopamine receptors.
