Abstract

AbstractIn this short note a rereading of SoS 7:1-7 is coupled with a reading of an episode from 'Hassan of Basra', of the Thousand and One Nights collection. The comparison between the two so-called 'poems of physical description', of the Shulammite and the Bird Woman respectively, raises once again issues of visual as against emotive content, gender provenance and gender performance for the SoS text.
