Abstract

The feedback coding problem for a feedback communication system with additive white Gaussian noise is investigated. Using mean-square estimation error as a performance measure, a recursive algorithm is given for evaluating the asymptotically optimal code of a specified form to be used when the signal-to-noise ratio in the feedback link is high. The relationship between this code and the coding procedure of Butman is given. When the signal-to-noise ratio in the forward channel is low, the transmitted signal sequence is given explicitly, and is compared with center-of-gravity methods.
