Abstract

Abstract By using a formal generalization of the Dirac bracket we construct gauge invariant actions for the extended conformal algebras which have free field representations in terms of spin-0 and spin- 1 2 fields. The construction also applies when central charges are present. In the chiral case the formal bracket coincides with the Dirac bracket, and the gauge invariant actions are just the hamiltonian actions in the canonical formalism where one of the light-cone coordinates is regarded as the time. As an example we construct an action for a W3-supergravity coupled to matter.
