Abstract

A formulation by gauge theory is given for families of leptons which have been introduced to explain the phenomena in the cosmic-ray air showers above 1015eV. The families, called categories, consist of three sets of leptons (e, μ, τ), (ζe,ζμ,ζτ) and (σe,σμ,σ,τ), where ξ and σ denote heavy leptons having the particle numbers specified by the subscript. By taking the gauge group as [SU2]n×U1 for then-category model, the weak-interaction Lagrangian is derived. Notable modifications are obtained in the interactions of Z0.
