Abstract

We propose a gauge model which realizes the pseudo-Goldstone idea for the pion, and we calculate its mass. We find ${{m}_{\ensuremath{\pi}}}^{2}$ as a function of the $\ensuremath{\rho}$ and ${A}_{1}$ masses and the mass and coupling constant of a new vector meson, which we tentatively identify as the recently discovered ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ vector boson. In our model, chiral symmetry is broken by the absence of the axial-vector partner of the ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$.
